Services i provide
Welcome to the services page, as I said in the brief description on my home page I am going to be offering more services in due course of my journey and yours but for now here are a list and short description of the services I will be providing now.
Dreadlock creation:
I create my Dreads for others the same way I had my own put In, this method is called the back combing and crocheting method.
This is done by sectioning the hair into sections depending on how thick you want your Dreads will depend on the size of these sections but this can be discussed in the Consultation.
The back combing is done by taking the sections and running a fine toothed metal comb down towards the scalp causing knots to form. This can be painful at the beginning but eases off during the rest of the work on the Dread but I do try to make this process as painless as possible, (not had many complaints) this process continues until all the hair in the section is tough and knotty. The sections are then palm rolled to form a barrel shape. Adding a little lock powder to my palms to aid the tightening (only if your hair is particularly greasy or silky).
After the method above I then crochet the sections to tighten and tangle the hair permanently despite hearsay and opinions of different people who Dread hair, crocheting is not harmful to your hair as long as you are not snapping and breaking hair, although prolonged crocheting can be harmful to the Dreads in time you will notice weak spots in them so I recommend crocheting no more than once or twice every month to bring in loose hairs. I prefer to use sizes (0.6mm-1.00mm) This method consists of entering the Dread from one side and grabbing the rough outside hair from the other side against my thumb and pulling into the center of the Dread to make a tight knot, I then crochet in different angles to really tangle the hair inside to make sure that the Dreadlock body will remain tight. This process takes the longest amount of time depending upon how thick or thin you want the Dreads and how easy your hair knots. But in all every hair type can and will dread.
To finish the Dreads I Palm roll each one individually to ensure they are all tight and I have not left any stray or loose hair. The roots should not be to tight to the scalp as this can cause discomfort and pulls the hair from the scalp and can sometimes create breakages where the Dread should be strongest to begin with. You will leave with perfect looking Dreads.
Over time you will notice loose hair and what we like to call "Dread Afro" This is just part of the process of the journey you have chosen to undertake & will naturally happen :). But maintenance will make sure you have good strong clean Dreadlocks.
Please be aware that creating new locks can take on average between 9 to 13 hours depending how long, thick, thin, dry, greasy your hair is so please be patience :D Dreadlocks are a process and take some time. Your Dreadlocks can if you wish be split over two days back to back about 6 hours each but this will all be determined on first contact with myself as I get a clear image of your hair.
Dreadlock Day:
Your Dreadlocks will take approx 9 to 13 hours as stated above. I can travel to any client within reachable distance, however if you wish to come to myself then I advise all my clients to come prepared: Music, Phone, Games for the consoles or Movies! However if your comfortable in the company of others then please just bring yourself and your good humor!
*Over night accommodation can be provided. Along with Food and Refreshments which are always offered from Meat to Vegan dietary needs :)*
So if you have any Special needs within reason i will be able to provide as long as i am aware in advance :).
Maintenance:
Maintenance is done with the same method as above with the crochet hook. I try to only maintain the Dreadlock itself but I will do some root work if necessary but please be aware that the root should have about 1-1/2 inches of un-dreaded hair as new growth is normal.
I can tighten, separate Congos, blunt frayed ends, extend your dreads with synthetic/real hair, dye your dreads, wrap dreads with acrylic yarn to add some color as not everyone likes to dye their Dreads!
I also offer to Dreadlock removal as contrary to belief they are possible to remove if you do not wish to have them any more but I strongly suggest you give them 6 - 12 months to lock up and tighten to form strong lovely looking locks. Unless you have had them a long time and wish to remove them of course. The removal process can take between 8 and 16 hours.
The removal process is done with the same sturdy comb that is used to make the Dreads in the first place and it is used to remove them by combing from tip to root in a slow but constant way and each Dread can take upto 20 minutes but usually between 10 and 15 minutes is standard. (MORE INFORMATION BELOW)
I can also thicken weakened dreadlocks by tying a couple together to strengthen them if they are growing thin from the root but this can be avoided at the beginning of your journey by not crocheting much at the root as this causes breakages where the hair is strongest and this hair cannot be replaced. To be honest your root do not need any work at all, maybe some palm rolling to form a ball of hair at the base of the Dread and this will help the hair find its way into the Dread to lock up itself.
Extensions:
Extensions are created with Synthetic/Natural hair and is prepared the same way as normal dreads as above.
They are then attached or sewn into your natural dreadlocks with thread or I can attach with a little longer time with just fray your dread at the end a little to attach the extension.
Please be aware that Synthetic/Natural hair comes as natural colors and can take some time to dread so I will need to know in advance of when you require them to be inserted or if you want them attached at the start of your journey please allow 2-4 working days to prep the Dreads ready for extension.
I order all my quality products from repeatable companies or individuals who also serve within this community.
*PLEASE NOTE I DO NOT CHARGE EXTRA FOR EXTENSIONS UNLESS YOU WANT THEM LONGER THE STANDARD LENGTH I OFFER WHICH IS 12-16"*
Coloring Dreads:
Coloring is the same as what you would get for normal hair. Although as Dreads soak up a unsubstantial amount of dye they do require a little more time and dye.
I can color Dreads with acrylic yarn by wrapping Dreads with it in a braid motion, These do need to be taken out after a couple of washes it can cause buildup of shampoo or oils you may use. But they offer a temporary fix for color and happiness!
Removal:
I can also remove Dreadlocks no mater how old they are and how long you have had them.
This involves a good deal of patience and time, I do this with the reverse of back combing and taking them out involves ALOT of hair loss so please be aware that although they can be removed, you will be left with about 2 maybe 3 inches less hair than that of what you started your dreadlocks with, also this depends on how long you have had them, as the tighter and maturer they are means more work will be put into taking them out as the hair has had time to knot up very very well and become so compressed over time and you will lose more hair the older they are as knots are hard to remove.
I do charge a little extra compared to maintenance to remove because the time frame can vary so much. And some of products I buy myself specifically for this purpose, so have to charge a small price to fund that area.
*However I am more than happy to give you a guided list of products I would use or need, these can be purchased by yourself before we start if this suits you to avoid extra costs or to spread the cost evenly.*
Please feel free to contact me for a free consultation.
